GIGS I WENT TO AND WHAT I THOUGHT! hopefully in reverse chronological order!!
I love live music so I basically liked everything I ever went to. Don't expect a lot of thoughtful criticism in this list.
Started on 2025-09-18, so some of the older ones I don't remember very well.
Check back for these bands coming up in the next few months: Bombino, Refused, Oklou, Lambrini Girls, Mass of the fermenting dregs, Slant MAYBE?

2025-09-13 / Gee Tee / Location: Vera
Opener was 1-800-Mikey, I liked them more, but fundamentally I think I don't really care for synth punk. I did have a great time with friends and drugs I hadn't tried before.
(I probably actually would have a good time at a synth punk gig sober even if I would not listen to these bands on streaming ever.)
-
2025-09-12 / Wiegedood / Location: Vera
Worth seeing, I do think every black metal song sounds exactly the same so I got a little tired after an hour
-
2025-09-11 / Subroutine 20 year anniversary / Location: Vera
- Free Dust - did not really do much for me tbh
- a fungus - math rock from Amsterdam, talking about "math rock" always feels cringe as fuck but I think it's really fun and they were good
- SØWT - great noise rock, strong recommend
-
2025-08-23 / Rogê / Location: Noorderplantsoen
Part of Noorderzon. It was suuuuper busy in the park, I didn't really care for this, only went because of friends
-
2025-08-20 / Ioana Iorgu / Location: Noorderplantsoen
Inside a shipping container at Noorderzon. Really great! When I listen to music like this I expect kind of an explosion towards the end of the songs, she doesn't really do that. It's like quite brooding post-punk.
-
2025-07-23 / Party Dozen / Location: EKKO
Absolutely fire. Tall guys in front of me so I barely saw a thing but they sound just amazingggg. To think I almost didn't go because I didn't feel like travelling all the way to Utrecht 💀
Opener was Ioana Iorgu, super good too, I wonder if I'll see her again later
-
2025-07-10 / Private Function / Location: Vera
Saw them again but with friends and psychedelics this time! My ass hurt because I fell while moshing. Guy did a crowdsurf jump from crazy high up, but it worked out I guess
-
2025-07-06 / LEENALCHI / Location: Oosterpark, Amsterdam
Part of the Amsterdam Roots Festival. Incredibly fun.
I had tickets to see them in Brussels some years ago, but I got sick so I was stuck in my hotel room the entire time. I hope I get to go to a full-length concert by them in the future!
-
2025-06-28 / Jera on Air
With emily! I mostly went for Refused and Maria Iskariot 😇
- State Power it's hardcore punk, I'm going to enjoy it
- Karen Dio alright, reasonably fun
- Maria Iskariot she was wearing a Ploegendienst shirt! Really great, I hope to see them in Vera in the futureererre
- Deafheaven incredible!
- Refused my goats, it was a bit sad that everyone only knew New Noise, and I would've liked a few more of their newer tracks as well but they probably just go for the big ones at a festival. I do feel like my life is more complete now that I've heard Liberation Frequency live
- Model/actriz wow!! really cool! I haven't gotten into their studio albums after this but the gig was an absolute highlight
- Dead by April left after half a song
- Denzel Curry I was too tired frankly, I'd like to see him not at a festival
- Knocked Loose seriously loud
-
2025-05-29 / S10 / Location: Oosterpoort
Had a blast, she has some great songs about friendship so it was super sweet to go with my bestie, like a lot of other people in the audience
Opener was milolaathetlukken, shrug.
-
2025-05-18 / PUP / Location: Melkweg
Hell yeah!!!!! Loved it!!
-
2025-05-13 / BABYMETAL / Location: AFAS Live
One of the biggest gigs I've been to definitely, it was quite funny how similar it was to a kpop concert with all the video interludes & stuff. It was fun, maybe not that special in hindsight?
Openers were Bambie Thug and Poppy. All I remember from Bambie Thug is the "Arm the dolls/gays/theys" shirts they were wearing & the trans flag and palestine flag, which is cool I guess. Poppy was good, I'd go to a headline show for sure.
-
2025-05-03 / ARTMS / Location: Effenaar
Sweeeeet. Was happy that they actually perform LOONA songs still. Kim Lip solo is just superbbbbb
-
2025-04-25 / Tramhaus / Location: Vera
Went with my bestie and it fucking ruuuuuuuled. Gay ass dances from the frontman. This is the band that made me reevaluate my disinterest in Dutch underground music.
Opener was thrilled, shoegaze from Rotterdam, absolutely loved it.
-
2025-04-17 / A Place To Bury Strangers / Location: Vera
Their claim to being the loudest band in the world does hold up from what I've seen so far. Pretty crazy show
-
2025-04-07 / And So I Watch You From Afar / Location: Neushoorn
A long-time favourite so it was really exciting to see them. Had a great time, and the songs from the new album sounded very good live so it made me like that a bit more.
-
2025-03-23 / Ichiko Aoba / Location: Oosterpoort
Soo sweet and pretty. Opener was Julien Desprez with a noisy experimental set, I was quite surprised, some parts didn't work for me and some of it was super sick.
-
2025-03-01 / Hybrid Festival
-
Ellen Arkbro / Location: Martinikerk
-
Palmbomen II / Location: Vera
-
YARD / Location: Vera
-
Bianca Scout / Location: Groningen Grand Theatre
Only caught a small part of this show but I really liked it.
-
Velocity Made Good / Location: Groningen Grand Theatre
Very danceable very cool.
-
HAEPAARY / Location: Vera
I'm kind of stunned that I got to see them here and not on a trip to Korea.
-
bela / Location: OOST
Super immersive show, an interesting experience but it was not really my thing.
-
-
2025-02-28 / Porter Robinson / Location: Melkweg
Amazingggggggggg I had high expectations, but this was still such a surprise. It went for so long and in different stages for the different albums, the crowd energy was awesome, just kind of a perfect gig honestly.
Opener was underscores, sadly no Bozo Bozo Bozo but luckily we did get her take on harvest sky, and locals/girls like us was super fun.
-
2024-12-21 / Hang Youth / Location: Vera
Incredibly fun what else can I say
-
2024-11-28 / RONKER / Location: Vera
Pretty good loud show, unfortunately only a few dozen people turned up and the energy was not really there
-
2024-11-24 / KARD / Location: Melkweg
Gay as hell audience!!! They are so hot man. We can have a little fanservice as a treat. The "Lesbians for KARD" caucus got a shoutout, thanks BM.
-
2024-11-20 / cumgirl8 / Location: Vera
With friends, I don't remember any songs honestly but great stage antics and a gay as hell audience
Openers Kilo+++ and Gonzo Bimbo, didn't really do a lot for me, but I wouldn't skip them as an opener for a different band in the future
-
2024-11-13 / Public Service Broadcasting / Location: Vera
Thought it was really funny that the Elfstedentocht track was the most popular one, that's probably not true outside the Netherlands. They just have so many fantastic songs though. No downtime at all.
I was staying in Amsterdam for a few days for work, so for this I went back to Groningen immediately after our last meeting and went back to Amsterdam at 6am in the morning.
Opener was Andreya Casablanca, who also features on some PBS songs!
-
2024-11-12 / Snow Strippers / Location: Melkweg
I was staying in Amsterdam for work, left our team dinner early for this.
The transitions between songs were atrocious lmao. Good fun still, I guess.
-
2024-11-08 / Xiu Xiu / Location: Vera
Was very in the back with friends, I think it made me realise I really do like it much more when I'm towards the front at a gig!
-
2024-10-31 / Hatis Noit / Location: Martinikerk
Part of the Sounds of Music festival.
Using field recordings, vocals and loop pedals. It sounded really great in this echoey church venue. She made some very uninteresting wishy washy comments about how music can bring people together referencing "Israelis" and Palestinians in particular.
-
2024-10-11 / Gurriers / Location: Vera
Not much to say, just a good gig, great stage presence.
Opener was HOOFS, a lot better than I expected.
-
2024-10-01 / Philip Glass Ensemble / Location: Oosterpoort
Performing Koyaanisqatsi. I would not watch it on its own as a film, but seeing it live and treating the film as essentially a glorified music video made it really cool. I do love the music.
-
2024-09-09 / Rắn Cạp Đuôi / Location: Seendosi
Awesome venue. I didn't super care for the main act to be honest.
Opener was NET GALA who I was more excited to see, it was super hot and their Mac kept locking up, felt pretty bad. It was good when it worked though...
My main memory from this is seeing the posters for Slant who were there the previous day, actually heartbreaking that I missed that, can't lie!
-
2024-09-07 / KIRARA / Location: National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul
In the museum's basement with beautifully decorated mirror-walls, also it was free entry because it was "Art Week" apparently and all museums in the entire city were free, pretty sweet.
-
2024-08-31 / SMTO MusouM / Location: Sejong Center for Performing Arts
Pictures here. A really unique performance with a great light show. With Ilwoo from Jambinai, it was super impressive.
-
2024-06-30 / Black Lips / Location: Vera
Tbh, I did not care that much for this. Zumi Rosow is fucking hot though holy shit.
-
2024-06-07 / Jeff Rosenstock / Location: Vera
Cant fucking believe I got to see Jeff at my home venue. Just ecstatic.
-
2024-06-01 / Private Function / Location: Vera
I still don't really know any of their songs but their live show is awesome. Also gave the podium to people from the Palestine encampment that was at the RUG at the time to promote some fundraisers which was cool.
-
2024-05-09 / Tamikrest / Location: Vera
Desert blues babeyyyyyyy
-
2024-04-12 / Avalanche Kaito / Location: Vera
KEXP recorded a performance by them AT THIS VENUE! How cool. Surprisingly danceable, I had a lot of fun, the songs sound imo a lot better live than on the albums.
The opener was NYOS, they had a nice setup in the middle of the venue with really cool lighting, it fit well with their kinda ambient music.
-
2024-02-11 / Jeff Rosenstock / Location: Marble Factory, Bristol
Worth traveling to a different country for. Really cool venue too.
Opener was Shit Present, also great!
-
2024-01-25 / Ni / Location: Vera
Very confusing music but it was loud so it's cool. I really liked the opener It Dockumer Lokaeltsje, a couple of Frisian guys that have been around for decades doing Frisian-language post-punk (including a bunch of covers/reworks of DAF). Raede Lippen was probably the best 1:30 minutes of the night.
-
2023-12-01 / Ploegendienst / Location: Simplon
Hard, goes crazy
-
2023-09-28 / Downtown Boys / Location: EKKO
This was a very small gig and it was REALLY fucking fun, much much more fun than I expected. I'm not that into their studio albums but the live show is sick. Especially Lips That Bite
(They have a rendition of the Internationale in French that is just really, unlistenably terrible but with everyone singing along it was still a great time!)
-
2023-05-31 / Jambinai / Location: Vera
With emily, all the way at the front, fucking loved it, some guy behind us got annoyed that the band kept talking about the impact of COVID on their lives (given that most measures had been lifted in the Netherlands for a long time and nobody thought about it anymore, while people in Korea were like still being responsible adults).
Onda was amazing, Connection is still a beautiful closing track, excellent
-
2023-05-30 / Red Velvet / Location: AFAS Live
Love them, crowd screaming so much all the time you could barely hear the songs, but what an experience. They don't make fandoms like this for punk bands
-
2023-05-17 / Otoboke Beaver / Location: Vera
Opener: The Klittens. All I remember about this is the 15 second recording I have. I'm sure it was great at the time though, and I would go again even though I apparently don't remember anything in particular about the first two times.
-
2022-11-16 / KUUNATIC / Location: Vera
This was pretty soon after I got my ears pierced and I wore some heavy earrings for this which was maybe stupid. I only knew one song by them when I went and I still do, I don't really remember anything about this gig.
-
2022-09-27 / tricot / Location: Melkweg
One of my favourite bands but sadly I don't remember a lot about this. Maybe was in kind of an odd headspace. I think hearing Night Monster live made me like the album Jodeki a lot more. I hope I get to see them again and have a real blast.
-
2022-07-16 / Welcome to the Village
Partially with emily??
-
KIRARA
The main reason I came! Fun!
-
Grove
bwoahhh this ruled! probably the best one at the festival. gay and communist. Off With Their Heads was sick.
-
Chibi Ichigo
I don't really remember this specifically but I liked it enough to want to go again when she was in Vera later. Sadly didn't work out schedule wise. I really like her song Gracht.
-
Avalanche Kaito
Don't really remember either but I liked it enough to want to go again when they were in Vera!
-
maarja nuut
really beautiful.
-
I think I really didn't make the most of this. I saw more than just these artists but I'm not sure which ones. There were also a lot of great bands that I didn't see ): It's a bit disappointing looking back at the lineup.
And now the festival doesn't exist anymore! fml!!
-
2022-04-16 / Julien Baker / Location: Vera
I went here with emily??? It was cozy, I didn't really find it more exciting than just listening to the studio albums at home though.
-
2020-02-13 / Otoboke Beaver / Location: Vera
I don't remember much of this to be honest, the opener was Drinking Boys & Girls Choir from Daegu so that's mostly who I went to see. They were good fun
-
2020-01-24 / Meindert Talma / Location: Vera
This show was the Domela Passie, a concept album about Frisian anarchist Domela Nieuwenhuis who was one of the "founders" of the socialist movement in the Netherlands. I remember the bassist looked a lot like someone I knew in elementary school and had the same first name but they were definitely not the same person.
-
2019-11-25 / Charli XCX / Location: Paradiso
Opener: Dorian Electra. Paradiso used to be a church, probably the best venue to see Adam & Steve.
I don't remember a lot about this almost 6 years later.
-
2019-10-16 / Jambinai / Location: Vera
This was maybe my first time seeing them? Fucking ruled. By far and away my favourite band at the time.
-
2019-02-20 / Algiers / Location: Vera
Super cool, especially Irony Utility Pretext, what a track
-
2018-11-07 / Superorganism / Location: Vera
Pretty fun, the band was not impressed with the crowd though
-
2018-11-06 / IDLES / Location: Vera
Good gig in theory but I was late and it was completely sold out & I was like standing in a choke point where people were constantly pushing by to get drinks, which sucked. I'd go see them again though and have a lot more fun
-
2018-05-09 / Zhaoze / Location: Vera
This is ages ago but in my memory there were not that many people and it was quite an experience. After one of the songs someone turned to me and just said "woah".
-
2018-04-06 / Sleaford Mods / Location: Vera
Quite alright as far as I remember!
-
2017-11-07 / Run the Jewels / Location: TivoliVredenburg
Was great I think, opener was Danny Brown, don't really remember that though I like him a lot more than RTJ nowadays.
-
2017-11-01 / Hyukoh / Location: Q-Factory
I only remember Wanli, but what a great track that is to remember
-
2017-05-29 / Shellac / Location: Vera
Opener was Decibelles. I forgot I went to this actually :')
-
2015-11-13 / Twenty One Pilots / Location: TivoliVredenburg
With high school friend, we were both really into them at the time. Their live shows are really great, high energy, friend caught Josh's drum stick so rock solid overall
-
2014-05-23 / God is an Astronaut / Location: Vera
I went with high school friends who complained afterwards about how loud it was.
-
2013-10-03 / 65daysofstatic / Location: Vera
Maybe the first gig I went to?
